IOVE FULGENTE Snow Washed Oversized T-Shirt

IOVE FULGENTE roughly means "If Jupiter (Jove) flashes."

It's part of a formula that, according to Cicero, the Roman augurs used to read signs from the gods. The full phrase is:

Iove fulgente et tonante (“If Jupiter sends lightning flashes and thunder” )

The augurs would say something like "If Jupiter sends lightning flashes and thunder on the left, then Rome should proceed with its plans to X..."

When I first read the phrase, it hit my ear like Inshallah (“If Allah wills it”), Deo volente (Christian Latin, "God willing"), "Lord willing," or "God forbid."

For our purposes at The Order of Fire, it isn't about believing literally in Jupiter Optimus Maximus, but acknowledging the role of chance in everything. It's important to do everything you can and work as hard as you can, but there will always be variables beyond your control. At some point, we all have to let go. Do your best, and give it to fate.

"Iove fulgente" is our way of saying "send it."

The men of the Order developed a glyph representing the concept of intention aligning with lightning, which is also found on the shirt, along with the Striker glyph.

The design also includes an original eagle head drawing by Jack Donovan, as the eagle is associated with the Striker generally, as well as Jupiter/Jove. The ancients were also known to read the signs of birds, and an eagle would have been especially auspicious.

In the Order, we've often joked that "what are the birds doing?" is one of the most "pagan" questions you can ask—so we included that too.

The design on the back of the shirt itself was inspired by a playing card, echoing the theme of chance. This shirt is packed full of information that only you will understand when you wear it.

Then you can put in the work in whatever you do, say "Iove Fulgente," and SEND IT.

"YOH-weh fool-GEN-teh"
